Chana Dal Chaat Recipe is a spicy crunchy and chatpati tea time snack that can be prepared in a matter of minutes. In the traditional recipe the chana dal is deep fried, but in this recipe I used readymade roasted masala chana dal. But you can also use an air fryer to make it healthy. Chatpati Chana Dal Chat is a delightful and tangy Indian street food dish. Here’s a simple recipe to make it:

Ingredients:
- 1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
- 2-3 cups water
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 large tomato, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped (adjust according to taste)
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
- 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dry mango powder (amchur)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons tamarind chutney (optional)
- 2 tablespoons green chutney (optional)
- Sev (crispy chickpea flour noodles) for garnish
- Chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Chopped green chilies for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the Chana Dal:
- Rinse the chana dal thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.
- In a pressure cooker or a pot, add the washed chana dal and water.
- Pressure cook for about 2-3 whistles or until the dal is cooked through. If using a pot, cook until the dal is soft and cooked but not mushy. Drain excess water if any.
- Prepare the Base:
- In a large mixing bowl, add the cooked chana dal.
- Add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, and coriander leaves.
- Seasoning:
- Sprinkle chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, dry mango powder, and salt over the dal mixture.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the mixture.
- Mix Well:
- Gently toss all the ingredients together until well combined. Adjust seasoning according to taste.
- Optional Chutneys:
- If using, drizzle tamarind chutney and green chutney over the dal mixture. This will add extra tanginess and flavor to the dish.
- Garnish:
- Sprinkle a generous amount of sev (crispy chickpea flour noodles) over the top.
- Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves and chopped green chilies if desired.
- Serve:
- Serve the Chatpati Chana Dal Chat immediately as a snack or appetizer.
Enjoy your tangy and flavorful Chatpati Chana Dal Chat!
